PSC-8: The Gift of Sight

Pacific Ocean Punta San Carlos: Beach Break & Bombora

Bad things happen in threes: started the day early realizing I had thrown out my only pair of contacts; got bonked in the head when my SUP was lifted off the water after I feel and the strong off-shore wind blew it back onto my head (my helmet did its’ job); and smashed the fin off the SUP SUP-sailing when I hit a rock.

So at breakfast I said, “I’ve gotten the three bad things out of the way early, so the rest of the day will be all good now.” And it was! Reiner gave me a set of contacts which were very close to mine and let me SUP and sail with vision! A wonderful gift of sight! Thanks Reiner! The morning SUP-sail was work at times (stronger wind then yesterday and it was a touch angry – puffy and shifty and more off-shore), but the wave riding on SUP-sail is such awesome experience allowing time to put all the tips into practice!

Then came the main event – afternoon windsurfing! Jumping, backside riding on large rolling swell, open ocean sailing, down the line wave rides and big smiles all around!

Things are really starting to click – thanks to the Wyatt and Tyson - and become second nature now!

Yet another awesome three-sport day (SUP, SUP-sail, windsurfing)!

Quote(s) of the day:

Renier: “I did some yoga after lunch and was so relaxed I laid down for a nap. Woke up around three to it cranking and everyone was out on the water!”

Michael (post session): “Man that was work! Kevin told me that I wasn’t allowed to come in unless I had caught a wave! His words rang in my head and I was determined to catch some. Then we caught that one [party wave] together on one of many wave rides today!”

Weather Conditions

Wind *** (out of five stars)

Stronger wind today.

Water/Waves *** (out of five stars)

Morning SUP-sailing waves flattened on the mid-day low tide to return mid-afternoon. Northwest swell wrapping into the bay provided wave rides and large swell rolling over Bombora provided some backside riding and jumping opportunities.

Jumps *** (out of five stars)

Jumps could be had both on the way out on the steeper waves and over Bombora.

Stoke *** (out of five stars)

Even the small waves couldn’t quash the stoke! Fun session with good feedback from our ‘coaches’ Wyatt and Tyson.
