Pamlico Sound OBX

Just got back from an amazing 2 week trip to the OBX......never had a holiday there so warm. Air and water temps in the 80's and 70's. No need for a wetsuit :-)

First sail was an afternoon at the Canadian Hole. Catapulted over a fishing line on my 3rd run! Had to swim back to the board and fight to free it from the line trapped between the weed fin and the fin box. A wee bit of whiplash and a story for my mother.....

The highlight of the trip was the race to the reef....177 participants this year. OBX-Wind is now part of the International windsurfing tour.....good to see the event elevated to a new level. Slalom races were added this year and more participants for the freestyle event. They are looking to add a wave event next year. Five people from our house entered the of them our 75 year strong friend Dirk! Dirk claims he plowed up half the sound with his fin....and had one good catapult.

My first race was disastrous..... rigged 4.2 and 84L....I wasn't alone though....the wind just dropped as soon as we were all at the starting line.....once the race started it was as if all the wind left with the group and I was stuck in the channel in front of Island Creek watching the rest of the sailors leave and me not able to get a waterstart. I drifted to where I could touch, got a beach start and went between sloughing and planning for two laps. I watched my husband drift way downwind of the mark and dnf the first race. That was the story from lots of riders....

Race 2 I just rigged big.... 5.5 and my 110 Skate....not a fast board but it gets on a plane quick... only had to hold on to it for two laps and it turned out to be a perfect choice because the wind dropped again right at the start of the race. I got a good start...hunted my husband down for the whole race and beat him right at the finish. Got lucky...someone fell in front of him and he had nowhere to go but down.

I salvaged a 5th place happy :-)

A big congratulations to our Max Robinson for his 1st place finish in the freewave men's. They had a U.S versus Canada contest but the U.S had almost 20 more sailors.....All in all a great event ....can't wait for next year! Lesson learned! I'm rigging big next time no matter what the wind is supposed to be blowing!

Sailed all but 3 days out of 16 :-).

Got a new 6.0 Hot Sail....I designed it ......pairs well with my 121 and my 110.

Sweet to ride :-)

Max won the freeride not freewave event :-)

Sailed all my boards and all my sails except the 3.3
