Windsurfing Buffet

Lake Ontario Frenchman's Baay

It was all you can eat waves day at Frenchman's Bay. Wind was all south producing some incredible steep ramps but also some crazy side shore current to punish for failing to make a jibe on the inside. I showed up as wind was lulling and Chris and Jeff were having a challenging coming back in underpowered on 4.7 and 5.6M sails. I opted for the 6.4M but as I was almost done rigging it started to honk again. I flattened my sail out and stuck it into the 113L. It actually made for an awesome combo to get past the crushing shore break and current. The bigger board was awesome as it would ram so muck air that it felt like it was floating. The Excess sail flattened out was great because it really helped to control the fall rate from lofty jumps. It was great being able to land just about every jump and make 90 % of my jibes. I found that looking to where I was going opposed to looking at what I was doing really made a huge change. of coarse I had to constanly remind myself to do that.

On the outside was massive rolling swells and breakign waves, especially out in front of the channel markers. At times while jibing donw the face of the waves it was pure surfing with no wind power and it seemed like I could take forever to jibe as the waves were spread so far apart.

I did some back loop attempts . One yeild full rotation but bailed out just before landing and another fully landed, feet on board and coming out of the water but could not hold onto the super powered sail. That was by far one of the best things that has happened all season. It only took 4 years to get there but it renewed my confidence that I can pull it off. The conditions were so perfect for this manuever.

When the rain came in it was totally insane as it felt like sailing in a sand blaster with one eye open.

Probably one fo my favourtie days all season next to sailing in the Gorge. Absolutely loved it and walked away with a huge grin from ear to ear.
