New member here...

Hello! My name is Patrick, I am going on 68 years old, and am addicted to windsurfing. I also kayak, have a small catamaran, paddle a SUP, mountain bike, and downhill ski.

I started sailing in 1977 with a Windsurfer One Design. Still have the wooden boom and parts of the wooden universal in my toy room. Owned The Sailboard Shop in Cambridge from 1979 until sometime in the late 1990's. We were dealers for Alpha, Mistral, F2, Curtis Hawk, Klepper, Sainval, Fanatic, O'Brien, Ten Cate, Gaastra, North, Neil Pryde, Windsurfing Hawaii, and many more.

Most of my Great Lakes sailing has been on Lake Huron, from Kettle Point up to Sauble Beach, with lots at Goderich and Port Elgin. Also Lake Erie from Turkey Point to Long Point, and some on Lake Ontario and Georgian Bay. I lost more than one radar detector getting to these spots when the wind was up.

My windsurfing trips have taken me to Hatteras, Aruba, Barbados, Margarita Island, and the Canary Islands. In a couple weeks will be going to Bonaire.

My gear is all old, late 90's stuff I stocked up with while I had the shop. I still sail a 90 litre wave board and a 130 litre slalom board. I also still have my 60 litre Speed Needle but it is a wall decoration now.

I recently retired and built my home between Port Elgin and Southampton Ontario, with Lake Huron about 100' from my front door.

My reason for joining this forum is to learn about the new equipment. While in Bonaire I plan to take dangle (kite) surfing lessons, and try the newer style windsurf gear. Upon return I will update my windsurf gear, or buy a kite setup.

The short video below shows this old guy (me 67) sailing my old gear (1990's) this past summer (2017) for the first time in over a year. It is on lake Huron, out front of my house. The sail is a 5.2m.

Thanks for accepting me into this group.

Great Video making old gear look good! Great times sailing in the 90's, no matter how much the gear sucked! The new gear is so much better and so much more efficient with so much more wind range! It may take a bit to get used to a new stance and new feel, but once dialed in, it's a blast!
Good luck and good sailing :D

Thanks sandman. It has been several years since I travelled, so I have not tried any new gear. Looking forward to it. In the early days, we took our gear with us. This pic shows some of the gear we hauled to Toronto airport, then to Barbados. I'm in the black shorts.

You just turned 60? OMG lots of w/s left for you LOL.

I hardly ever see anybody windsurfing up here any more. Several kites though. In the pic is my next-door neighbour. On days when there isn't quite enoungh wind for me, he is out front going back and forth, taunting me LOL. So I respond with a drink.
