Rigging camber sails.

Postby Amir.Fitness » Sun Apr 23, 2017 12:16 pm

Hey guys. This is my first camber sail, it's Bic speedster 7.8 dual cambers. Yesterday I tried to rig it following every step on how to rig a camber sail. However, the mast is not able to get in the cambers at all. I tried to lose the downhaul and the outhaul but no success the mast insists to stay on top of the cambers. Anyone was dealing with the same issue before? Thnx guys.

P.S The sail has NO camber zippers. Am i suppose to rig with the cambers ON? because i tried to rig with mast above cambers but couldn't pop the cams on, even if i loosen the downhaul and outhaul.
Any tricks?

Awesome, I just did that today and works great. Now I am dealing with another issue. The cambers pressure is very high they don't react to wind I have to push them with my hands with all my powers in order to flip them back am forward.

I am googling now on how to finetune the cambers pressure.
If anyone knows any tricks or advice please feel free to share.

Thanks again guys, awesome forum.

make sure you have the correct mast
downhaul more than usual (a bit)
tighten out haul a bit
put McLube on cambers
if new , this is semi-normal (not with all your strength tho)
when wind is strong none of this should be necessary ie flip with no issues

Thnx for the quick response Joe. I just tried to do as u said today (a bit more downhaul and more outhaul) the cams are still tentioned it takes alot of effort to flip them to the other side. The sail is not new. I'm trying to research on the issue but no success yet.
Tomorrow i will try to take the cams out and see if there are any spacers or not.

McLube, or waterproof silicon spray on cams and mast does help flip sail.

Do NOT spray mast at boom height! Yes, learned that through practise..

It worked yey lol. ok let me put the solution here in a nutshell for anyone who faces the same issue.
( 1- apply on cams any dry lube Mclube or any non greasy lube water proof lube, I used Jig a loo lubricant the orange spray bottle.
2- Add more downhaul in order to increase the mast curve which will allow the mast to not pressure on the cams.
3- I added extra outhaul as well. basically try to play back and forward with the outhaul and downhaul till u find the sweet spot as long as ur sail looks good and no wrinkles.)

Thanks guys for ur advice. The sail is ready and can't w8 till temp becomes warmer to take it for a ride. 8)
