Can you extend a boom to the max and use it reliably?
To cover my sails, I need a range of 167-224cm and there are some boom covering that...
wondering if people use a rule like min to 80% of the max only or something like that...

Almost maxed i would be careful. But at 224 your probably on a big sail. Definitely, something that your not going to be looping with.
I use a 8.0 with a nearly maxed out boom(4cm from maxed) regularly and have had no issues. You should be fine.
