windsurfing near Kingston

Postby joe_windsurfer » Tue Apr 17, 2018 1:37 pm

hello:

my bro lives in Mrs. Auga and I in Montreal
we were thinking of meeting near Kingston this summer and doing a windsurfing weekend
he is a newbie and I go out in light winds with him
where near Gananonoque, Kingston, Belleville could we go - rent a place and not heavy wind n wave in the summer ??

thanks in advance
joe

If he is a beginner, West lake is great, shallow, warm, think mini Hatteras. There are cottages for rent, bed and breakfast and resorts nearby.
Plus you can sail Mac at Sandbanks if windy and wavey.
Need weed fins.
Lots of wineries around. Good restaurants.

Kingston is deep water and boat traffic
Doeable but not ideal

Along the bay of Quinte is nice too.

I think Fathom is spot on there. Kingston is a tough spot to learn. Best options are probably Fairfield Park in Amherstview (just 20min from d/t Kingston) and Emily St (I guess). If it is windy enough to sail, these spots get bumpy and as Fathom said, boat traffic is a bit of a problem. Shorelines are rough rock, or slick limestone, depending on where you go. Getting stuck downwind can present some problems.

Sandbanks is jam packed through the summer and I don't think you can sail there during the summer, certainly not at OUtlet Beach, not sure about Sandbanks Beach. For sure West Lake is a good option for learning.
