Techno 283 replacement opinions wanted

Postby fastback3268 » Thu Jul 12, 2018 5:46 pm

Hi All,

I have been thinking of replacing my old, much loved Bic Techno 283 cm 150 Litre board. I use the board mostly on inland lakes with a 7.5 race sail. I would like to get something used but a current design. I am just not up to speed with modern design boards. I am a solid intermediate sailor with decades of experience. I have had unforgiving race boards like F2 Thommens, but I have found I much prefer a board that is more forgiving but still has descent performance. For years the Techno fit the bill but I am sure there is a better board out there now. Any input would be appreciated.

If you plan to sail primarily on 7.5 then IMO current board will do; going down to say 6.0 you could use a smaller board, perhaps 115-125. Once you get used to the smaller volume, the 150 board will feel like a barge - stable and forgiving, but slooow..

BTW, many 115s will carry a 7.5 too, just shlogging back to shore is a balancing act..

The JP Excite Ride is an awesome board!
The Magic Ride could be considered too.
I know Silent Sports had a pretty sweet deal on last years Excite Rides....not sure you will find one used.
If that Techno has a deep tuttle fin box hang on to it! You can use a bolt on foil with it.
If your selling it I want first dibs :-)

Thanks for the advise.
So far, I am interested in the JP xcite 142 as a replacement. I will keep an eye out for a used one.
My old Techno has a Trimbox style fin, so it will hand it down to my kids to learn short boarding on.
Cheers
